It may surprise many to learn that tenants – who are known as ‘occupiers’ under strata legislation – have rights (and responsibilities) in a strata scheme. While occupiers do not get the right to vote, they do have rights in other areas, including accessing body corporate records, and they also have a right to have disputes resolved through the Commissioner’s Office.
Occupiers/tenants might also need to request approval from the committee for things such as parking or pets (yes, pet issues are still occurring), or to make a necessary improvement to the lot. Or there may be a maintenance issue involving common property that is having an impact on you as an occupier tenant. We can guide you through the process of getting the best outcome.
If you are a real estate agent or property manager attempting to navigate through a challenging strata issue involving your occupier/tenant, or you are acting on behalf of your occupier/tenant, we can assist you or the property owner in this sometimes-misunderstood part of the strata sector.
